For women empowerment, Ministry started “Nai Roshni”, a Leadership Development Programme for Minority Women in 2012-13. The objective of the scheme is to empower and instill confidence among minority women, including their neighbours from other communities living in the same village/locality, by providing knowledge, tools and techniques for interacting with Government systems, banks and other institutions at all levels. Wsss is implementing Nai Roshni project in Wayanad district.Training programms are going on

Empowerment is now increasingly seen as a process by which those without power gain greater control over their lives. This means control over material assets and intellectual resources alike. It involves power to, power with and power within. Human beings are gaining this power through the leadership qualities. NAI ROSHNI is a   Scheme for Leadership Development of Minority Women implemented by Ministry of Minority Affairs. Wayanad Social Service Society (WSSS) is acting as the Program Facilitating Agency (PFA) in Wayanad District of Kerala State. The objectives of the is leadership development of minority women, including their neighbours from other communities living in the same locality, is to empower and instil confidence in women, by providing knowledge, tools and techniques for interacting with Government System and other institutions at all levels. The life of majority of women in the traditional settings is of daily drudgery & their hardship is further compounded by non-availability of infrastructure and services relating to civic/basic amenities and socioeconomic conditions. Unless women stand up and fight for their right, mitigation of their hardship may take time. The scheme is envisaged to reach out to women through non-governmental and governmental organizations by providing assistance for conducting leadership trainings to empower and embolden minority women. The training programmes were based on three basic themes; Leadership Development, Issue related to Women and Women Empowerment and the contents included in the trainings were as follows:-

Health & Hygiene

Emerging Leaders

Mrs.Maimoonath, a minority Muslim woman attended Nai Roshni Training program during the year 2014-15. She actively participated in the training program.  The training programme helped her to attain lots of knowledge and she could get more insight through the different classes arranged by WSSS under Nai Roshni Program. The fellow trainees were very much appreciated her leadership qualities during the training period. The classes prompted her to be more active in the social activities and to become a more socially responsible person.   We also recognised that she is rich in her leadership qualities like communication skills, care, courage, vision etc. So we included Fatima as a volunteer for organising balance batches of Nai Roshni Training Program. She was very much passionate in all her actions in supporting WSSS for the Nai Roshni Programme.  In the Panchayath Raj Institutions (PRIs) Election 2015, Mrs.Maimoonath was elected as a Member in Thondernadu Grama Panchayath of Wayanad District, Kerala and selected as Chairman, Standing Committee for Health and Education. During the financial year 2015-16 WSSS conducted 38 batches of Nai Roshni training Program. Out of 38 batches of training program 10 batches were conducted at Thondernadu, the Grama Panchayath of Mrs. Maimoonath. She coordinated the training program and also served as a resource person. Like Mrs. Maimoonath other 07 women among those who attended in the Nai Roshni Training program now elected as PRI officials. WSSS believes that Women Empowerment means to inspire women with the courage to break free from the chains of limiting beliefs, patterns and societal or religious conditions that have traditionally kept women suppressed and unable to realize their true beauty and power. Nai Roshni presents as a highly effective programme delivering innovative approaches to empower the Minority Women.
